2005 Book List

Well, 2005 is a done deal. So here's the books that I read in '05. I think reading is really important for every leader. It's important to also not just read books by people you agree with. That takes the thinking out of reading. I try to throw a couple of zingers in there just to mix it up and keep me on my toes. I don't know if this will actually help anyone, but here goes...

Book review: God is closer than You Think

Last week I finished reading John Ortberg's new book, "God is closer than you think." I'm going to give this book 2 major thumbs up! There are times I've read a book at the right time and it totally blesses me. Well, this is one of those times. I spent a couple of months in a dry season and this book totally got me juiced up again. The word pictures John paints using famous the masterpiece "The Creation of Adam" and then the funny drawings of Waldo in the "Where's Waldo?" books have given me a new perspective on how God wants us to draw close to Him. Even when it isn't as easy to find Him, He is using that to lead us closer to His heart. I recommend you buy this book and enjoy its' message...

2005 Reading List So Far

Well, the year is almost half over (Is that optimistic or pessimistic?) and I set a goal to read 30 books a year. Of course, not all books are created equal, which means there are books of 100 pages and others of 500. So I decided this year that not only was I going to read 30 books, but that I was going set a goal of 6,000 pages (That's 200 pages per book for those keeping score at home). So here's where I'm at:

Fields of Gold by Andy Stanley
The 1 Thing by Thom & Joanie Shultz
The Best Question Ever by Andy Stanley
The Barbarian Way by Erwin McManus
Creating Community by Andy Stanley/ Bill Willits
Winning with People by John Maxwell
Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller
The Fred Factor by Mark Sanborn
The Likeability Factor by Tim Sanders
Jewish Sources in Early Christianity David Flusser
First Impressions by Mark Waltz
Understanding the Difficult Words of Jesus by David Bivin
Searching for God Knows What by Donald Miller
Simply Strategic Volunteers by Tony Morgan & Tim Stevens

Total number of books read = 14
Total number of pages read = 2429 (Yes, I count)
