"Good to Great and the Social Sectors" by Jim Collins is a must buy for all church leaders. He had planned on releasing this as part of a re-release of "Good to Great". But since that would require us to have to purchase another copy of the book, he didn't. (For that, I say, "Thank you!")
Here's the deal: Jim did some research on how non-profits have used the Good to Great Principles in their organizations. What is found in this little 35 page booklet is priceless stuff. He's a guy that gets it!
What really amazed me in reading this 2 years after reading Good to Great is how many of his phrases are part of our church culture.
Think about how many times you're heard church leaders use terms like:
Level 5 Leader
Getting the Right People on the Bus
The Hedgehog Principle
Confront the Brutal Facts
That's insane! I was totally shocked when I realized how much his books (Including "Built to Last" which is another classic) have influenced our language.
Anyway, if you are interested in how jim Collins would have written Good to Great if he were writing it to church leaders, pick it up. You won't regret it! 5 Stars!
I just finished the 5th chapter of the regular "Good to Great" and it has been very helpful and dare I say convicting!
