I know I'm really late to the party, but I finally got around to reading Freakonomics by Steven Levitt. All I can say is that it's a really fun book to read.
The chapter titles immediately drew me in (how can you not want to read a chapter called, "Why do drug dealers still live with their mothers?") The book was a fun look at all the stats that people give and the societal rules they create. The book probably won't give you much sermon material or leadership insight, but it's a fun, quick read that will cause you to think differently. It was a god change of pace for me.
I read the book back about 2 years ago, and it remimded me of Mark Twain's old saying: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, (darn) lies, and statistics."
You swirl with them in a sea of numbers that to me seemed as if they can manipulate them in any way that they wanted to take it to.
Having said that, what I really appreciated about the book is their contrarian spirit, their willingness to look at situations & see a diiferent picture that we may have been missing along due to sloppy thinking and pre-conceived notions.
